特徴：美濃千手院は美濃国に居住した刀工の一派である。美濃国は備前国に次いで多くの刀工を輩出し、流派も多く分かれている。 美濃千手院は大和千手院系の国長が南北抗争の影響で不和郡赤坂に移住したもので、室町時代中期頃まで続いた。

Characteristics: The Mino Sentein were a group of swordsmiths who lived in the Mino Province. Mino produced the second largest number of swordsmiths after Bizen, and there are many different schools of swordsmiths. The Mino Sentein were descended from the Yamato Sentein lineage, who moved to Akasaka, Fuwa-gun, due to a north-south war, and continued until the middle of the Muromachi period (1333-1573). 薩摩の名刀といわれる波之平の初代刀工行安は、橋口正国といって大和（奈良）の国から薩摩に入り、永延（987-988）年頃、この地に住みました。 波之平地区は近くに谷山海岸の豊かな砂鉄、背後の山に木炭、そして焼刃渡しの水もあり、刀剣づくりに適していました。行安は一条天皇の御剣を作ったことから、波平刀は全国に名を知られるようになる。 戦前海軍軍人から好まれた理由は波が平となるという理由で人気を博した。

Gyoyasu Hashiguchi Masakuni, the first swordsmith of Naminohira, which is considered to be one of Satsuma's most famous swords, came to Satsuma from Yamato (Nara) and lived in this area around the year Eien (987-988). The Naminohira area was suitable for sword making because of the abundance of iron sand from the nearby Taniyama coast, charcoal from the mountains behind the area, and water for passing burnt edges. Gyoyasu made the Emperor Ichijo's sword, and the Nami-hira swords became famous throughout the country.
